Red Rhones from the New World

These are the New World cousins of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Cornas and Gigondas. As compared to the French models, these tend to be more fruit-forward and lush with less structure and earthiness. Rhones varietals are finding a special home in California's Central Coast, led by producers like Bob Linquist at Qupé.

Southern Rhone Reds

The Southern Rhone is the home of Grenache. These wines are some of the richest red wines in France. Chateauneuf-du-Pape was the first appellation in France. Gigondas is known for being big and strong. Vacqueyras is usually the ripest and most approachable.
