100% Pinot Noir…most of the time. By far and away the best wines on the planet. It is said that Red Burgundy should never be enjoyed alone because its beauty needs to be discussed and revered. Elegant wines which require patience. They sneak up on you and enthrall, they do not attack you. The best red wines for food.

Burgundy

Beaujolais
Yes, Beaujolais is part of Burgundy but it is the only region in Burgundy that grows Gamay instead of Pinot Noir. Strawberry and raspberry. Gorgeous wines. I like mine with a little chill.
2004 Brouilly, Alain Michaud 42
2004 Morgon, Marcel Lapierre 45

Regional Wines
These wines are often overlooked because they don't have a fancy title. They are great values.
2001 Bourgogne, Domaine Bachelet 44
2004 Hautes Cotes de Nuits, Olivier Jouan 50

Chambolle-Musigny, Monthelie, Pernand Vergeles and Volnay
Feminine, beautiful wines that are renowned for their delicacy. Rose petals and red fruits are in the forefront. Harmonious.
2004 Chambolle-Musigny, 1er Cru Les Gruenchers, Domaine Dujac 280
2003 Monthelie, 1er Cru Les Champs-Fulliot, Domaine Parent 80
2003 Pernand-Vergelesses, Les Boutieres, Domaine Delarche 52
2002 Volnay, 1er Cru Santenots, Jehan Emonin 110

Pommard
Masculine and earthy. Clay soils dominate in Pommard and the wines reflect their site. Brooding and mysterious but worth the adventure.
2002 Pommard, 1er Cru Les Chaponnieres, Domaine Raymond Launay 122
2002 Pommard, 1er Cru Les Epenots, Domaine Parent 168
2002 Pommard, Domaine Joseph Voillot 74

Nuits-St.-Georges
Home to some very famous winemakers, Nuits-St.-George is the masculine and the night. Darker wines with black cherry and truffle, these can some times surpass their famous cousins in Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanee.
1999 Nuits-St.-Georges, 1er Cru Aux Murgers, Meo-Camuzet 280
2003 Nuits-St.-Georges, 1er Cru Clos des Forets St-Georges, L'Arlot 172
2004 Nuits-St.-Georges, Robert Chevillon 105
2003 Nuits-St.-Georges, Les Chaliots, Michel Gros 98
2003 Nuits-St.-Georges, Louis Jadot 82

Gevrey-Chambertin
The King of Pinot Noir. Easily recognizable because of it's famous Grand Cru village, Le Chambertin, Gevrey boasts the longest lived Pinots in the world. Masculine, structured Pinots with dark red fruits and pronounced minerality.
2003 Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Bachelet 108
2004 Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Louis Max 112

Vosne-Romanee
If Gevrey is King then Vosne-Romanee is certainly Queen and in this matter, many would argue that a Queen trumps a King. Why? Pinot is a decidedly sensitive grape and a soft touch can sometimes achieve more than a strong arm. The sexiest wines in the world. No contest.
2003 Vosne-Romanée, 1er Cru Aux Brûlées, Michel Gros 170
2001 Vosne-Romanée, La Voie Romaine, Laboure-Roi 68
2003 Vosne-Romanée, Sylvain Cathiard 148

The Grand Crus
Like their white counterparts, the red Grand Crus in Burgundy are listed by vineyard site only. These are special wines, very difficult to acquire but a joy to drink.
2004 Clos De La Roche Grand Cru, Domaine Dujac 320
1996 Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti 845
1997 La Tache Grand Cru, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti 895
1998 Le Musigny Grand Cru, Comte de Vogue 350
1989 Richebourg Grand Cru, Domaine Leroy 850
